Ministry of Communications and Information Technology
According to Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr Tarek Kamel: “Information and communications technology (ICT) has become a determinant feature of the world we live in, representing the backbone of societies around the globe including, of course, Egypt. Since its establishment in 1999, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has worked steadfastly to unleash the potential of this sector. As a result, Egypt today has a state-of-the-art communication system, including three mobile phone companies servicing a subscriber base that has seen exponential growth”.
Minister Kamel adds that:
“MCIT’s policy is based primarily on the government’s Information Society initiative, which aims at spreading ICT tools nationwide and building the foundations of an export-oriented ICT community. To achieve this, MCIT has been acting as a catalyst, working to create the most suitable environment for healthy development of the industry by promoting competition, encouraging multinational investment, and partnering with the private sector and civil society.”
