7th Edition of Safer Internet Day is celebrated Around the World on 9 February, 2010
Today 9 February 2010 the 7th edition of Safer Internet Day is celebrated and will focus on the theme “Think before you post!”
The Safer Internet Day is organized by INSAFE (European Safer Internet awareness-raising network co-funded by the European Commission) each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
The 27 national centers in the Insafe network and its partners in almost 40 countries will bring young people and adults together in local, regional, national and online events all around the world to reflect on the publication of images online. A video clip has been created in all official EU languages and more to support this campaign. (To watch the video please visit: http://www.saferinternet.org)
For the past 2 years, the Cyber Peace Initiative has participated at the Safer Internet Day. This year the Initiative will be holding 2 events to celebrate this day:
• The Cyber Peace Initiative will be holding a specialized session, for the first time at Egypt's leading ICT exhibition and forum "Cairo ICT 2010" on the 9th of February. The session will focus on the issue of privacy on the Internet; featuring experts from Microsoft, TE Data, the Ministry of Justice, the Youth Internet Safety Focus Group and Parents Internet Safety Focus Group.
• The Parents internet Safety focus Group of the Cyber Peace Initiative will also be holding an awareness session on the 8th of February about safety and privacy online at the Rotary Club.
